People ask us all the time, "Where do I start? I'd like to understand the Mayan calendar but where do I start?"
The sheer volume of information can make you feel overwhelmed. And that's not to mention figuring out what information is accurate and what isn't.
The Mayan calendar is much more than etchings in stone
There's a whole new world of insight waiting for you about what's encoded within the Mayan calendar.
While it's definitely exciting, it's also fairly detailed. A quick swipe at the information won't be enough to ground you in why it's valuable to you personally. It helps to dig into it a little, so you can use it effectively in your life.
What makes the Mayan calendar valuable for modern people is the EXPERIENCE
Evolution of Consciousness begins with awakening your awareness. While you may feel you're already living your life through awareness, there may bemore to it than you realize
So it's vital to start with something that's easy to do and can be established early on.
2 Easy Steps...
STEP 1: Find out your true Mayan birth date.
STEP 2: Follow the correct Tzolk'in Day Count each day.
That's it.
How-To STEP
You can use the Mayaonix Mayan Calendar calculator to translate any Gregorian day to the corresponding Mayan Calendar Tzolk'in day.

We offer this calculator as a "goody" when you subscribe for The Code News, so you may already have it. If not, download the file now. You're still invited to become a subscriber eventhough you get one of your "Thank You Gifts" in advance!
Why the "Mayaonics" calculator? Because there are many very different systems available on-line. They do not all agree and they are not all the same.
The Mayaonics calculator is correlated to the 2500 year unbroken day count of the Guatemalan Highland's Quiche Maya people. It's known as the "True Count" because archaeologists have verified the Quiche Maya have not lost track of one single day of their Tzolkin calendar system in over 2500 years.
If accuracy matters to you, the Mayaonics calculator is an invaluable tool.
How to determine which day is your Mayan Calendar Tzolkin birthdate?
The easiest way to learn your Mayan birth date is with the Mayaonix Calculator that already has the correct day-count in it. It figures the Tzolk'in day for you and is as easy as typing in your date-of-birth.
First, install the Mayaonix Calculator which is as easy as clicking on the .exe file you downloaded. It installs instantly and will appear as an icon right on your desktop.
- Open the Mayaonix Calculator on your desktop.
- Enter your date of birth.
Let's do one for Jamie born June 15, 1962.

Jamie's Mayan birth date is 12 Lamat.
How to find the Tzolkin Tone and the Day Sign (glyph)
Jamie's TONE is 12 and her Day Sign is Lamat which is Rabbit or Star.
There are different schools of thought about when the day began according to the ancient Maya. This precise information is not clearly defined. I can offer you my own experience from doing many Mayan birth date reports for people all over the world. I found that if an individual is born within 2 hours of Midnight, either before or after, this can change the Tone and Day Sign.
To learn more about the Tones and Day Signs read:
"A Look At the Tzolk'in Calendar Round"
Typically, when I am doing a Mayan birth date report, I need the time, city and date of birth. If the person is not born with 2 hours of Midnight, by the Guatemalan time zone, the Gregorian day will translate directly into the Tzolk'in.
If the individual was born 2 hours before or after Midnight, there's a possibility their Mayan birth date may fall on the day before or the day. In such a case, I ask a series of questions to determine which day feels more appropriate for that person. You can do the same on your own as you begin to follow the days yourself.
Within 2 hours of Mid night...
- If Jamie were born 2 hours before Midnight, there's a possibility her Tone and Day Sign would be the following day.
- If Jamie were born 2 hours after Midnight, there's a possibility her Tone and Day Sign would be the preceding day. A few questions will usually resolve which day.
If you don't know the qualities of the Tones and Day Signs, go with a direct translation until you become more familiar. Soon you'll know if your Tone and Day Sign is the day before or the day after.
The point is really to begin establishing a point of reference for yourself to interact with the energies of the Daily Tzolkin Calendar.
You are one of the 260 pieces of the Sun
The translation of the word Tzolk'in is: Tzol = count and kin = day, which means "count of days".
Another translation for Tzolk'in is: "pieces of the Sun" or "pieces of divine Creation".
There are 260 days in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar so there are 260 "pieces of divine Creation" and they are all in you. You also represent one of them strongly in the day you chose to become a physical being, according to the ancient Maya. Your inter-action with the Tzolk'in is amplified in beautiful and subtle ways through knowing your Mayan birth date. To learn more about the Tzolk'in, check out our article, Tzolk'in Calendar
How-To STEP
The second STEP in this 2 STEP process is even easier than the first one.
Follow the correct day-count for the Tzolk'in every single day. Just check what the Tone and the Glyph is for the day. Study the Glyph for a few minutes; a kind of quiet meditation that connects you with the image. It's helpful to not get hung up on the "definitions" of the tones and glyphs. Words are only a description. A description is not the described. The Symbols themselves speak volumes to the observer and can teach far more than descriptions are capable of.
